Bottom hinged vintage trailer baggage compartments are often tethered by a chain on one or both sides. Non-hinged doors may use a chain as a tether to prevent losing the door by accident.

We sell stainless steel replacement chain by the foot.

This is very similar to vintage Hehr part number 010-199 except that it is stainless steel to make it much more corrosion resistant.
